In construction every quote costs real time: a visit to the site, measurements, calls to suppliers and hours of estimating. That is why quoting a lot and closing little hurts more than in almost any other business. The usual reaction is to think the price was too high, but many quotes are lost earlier and for simpler reasons: you replied a day late, you quoted someone who did not even have the land yet, you sent a single number over WhatsApp, and nobody called back. Each of these has a concrete fix, and none requires lowering your price.
Reply fast: the first hour matters
A 2011 Harvard Business Review study audited 2,241 US companies and found that those who responded to an online inquiry within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify the LeadSomeone who showed interest in what you sell and left their details or messaged you, but has not bought yet. as those who responded even an hour later. Only 37% of companies responded within the hour, and the average response took 42 hours.
In construction the same thing happens: someone who wants to build or remodel asks several companies at once. Whoever replies first, with a clear next step, sets the tone. If you are on site all day, at least make sure an automatic reply confirms receipt and says when you will call.
Qualify before you visit
Not every request is a project. Some people are “just getting an idea”, others do not have the land or the financing yet. Visiting all of them uses the time you need for the ones who are ready. The fix is a short form before the visit: type of project, location, whether they already own the land, an approximate budget range and when they want to start.
It is not rude; it saves both sides time. Put that form on a Landing pageA page built for a single action, like requesting a quote or booking. It is used mainly as the destination for ads.Read more → or your website, and send the answers straight to your CRMA system where you keep your customers and prospects with their history of messages, appointments and purchases, so you can follow up without relying on memory or a notebook.Read more → so nothing gets lost in a chat. A quote people can understand
A single number over WhatsApp invites the customer to compare only on price. A quote broken down by stage, with the scope, what is included and what is not, timelines, payment schedule and how long the price is valid, lets them compare what they are actually getting. It also shows the order and experience they will find on site.
Present it in a clean format with your brand, and walk through it on a call or in person when you can. A quote the customer understands is a quote they can defend in front of their partner or family, which is often where the decision is made.
The follow-up nobody does
Many quotes are not rejected; they simply go cold. The customer had a question, travelled, or was waiting on a loan, and nobody called back. A simple follow-up sequence changes that: on day two, ask whether they have questions; on day seven, share a similar project you completed; on day fifteen, remind them when the price expires.
Doing it by memory fails when you have ten open quotes. A CRM or an automatic sequence makes sure it happens, which we cover in automating sales follow-up. And when you lose a project, write down why: price, timing, trust or someone else replied first. After a few months, that list tells you what to fix.
A portfolio that builds trust
Building is expensive and customers are afraid of choosing wrong. A gallery of loose photos does not settle that fear. A portfolio does when each project is a short case: type of work, square metres, time it took, location, and before and after. It answers the question the customer does not dare to ask: “have they done something like mine?”.
Video helps even more. A drone flyover shows the scale of a project and how it progressed in a way photos cannot, and it is useful on your website, in ads and in the follow-up messages. See our drone video service and the rules that apply in drone regulation in Mexico.
Get found without a referral
Most construction companies live on referrals, which is good until they stop coming. The next customer who does not know anyone who can recommend you will search on Google. It is the first thing many people see when they search for your business.Read more → should show photos of finished projects, the areas you work in and reviews from real clients; ask for one at every handover, when satisfaction is highest.

How to measure it
Track four numbers each month: requests received, site visits, quotes sent and projects closed. The ratio between quotes sent and projects closed is your close rate, and the list of reasons you lost tells you where to act first. If most requests never become a visit, the problem is qualification; if many quotes go cold, it is follow-up.
