How Long Does It Take to Build a Professional Website?

A Presence or Professional-tier website takes 3 to 6 weeks once content is approved. A Lead-Gen or Automated site, with forms, integrations and conversion logic, takes 6 to 10 weeks. Custom commercial systems or SaaS can take several months. Development speed is rarely what determines these timelines.

Timeline by tier

Presence and Professional tiers: 3 to 6 weeks. Lead-Gen and Automated tiers: 6 to 10 weeks, since they add forms, integrations and conversion logic that need testing. Commercial systems and custom SaaS: several months, because they involve custom development and often a database architecture built from scratch.

The real bottleneck: content, not code

The clock starts once content is approved, not once the contract is signed, because most delays happen before that point: waiting on photos, copy revisions, or a final decision on messaging. A team that already has its content ready can move through a build noticeably faster than one that's writing copy as the project goes. On projects we've run, the gap between a client who has photos and copy ready on day one and one who's still gathering them two weeks in is often the single biggest swing factor in total delivery time, bigger than the tier or complexity of the site itself.

What actually speeds things up

Having brand assets ready (logo, photos, existing copy), giving fast feedback on drafts instead of batching revisions, and having one clear decision-maker instead of a committee reviewing every screen are the three factors that most reliably shorten a timeline, more than anything on the development side.

When to be skeptical of a promised timeline

A quote promising a fully custom Lead-Gen site in a few days is either using a heavily templated base with minimal customization, or setting an expectation it won't meet. Realistic timelines account for real design, real copy, and real testing, not just filling in a pre-built shell.

Frequently asked questions

For a very basic Presence-tier site with content already ready, it's possible in specific cases. For any site with strategy, real copy, and conversion structure, one week isn't a realistic timeframe.

It's almost always content: missing photos, copy that doesn't get approved, or messaging decisions that get postponed. Development itself is rarely the factor that most extends the process.

SEO structure and copywriting are integrated within the build timeline, not as separate phases afterward. That's part of why the process takes weeks, not days.

Have your brand assets ready from the start, respond to revisions quickly instead of batching them, and designate one person with authority to approve decisions, instead of a committee.
